How He Loves

ND and I had an interesting conversation on the way home from training tonight! He informed me that his English class was discussing rhetoric and figurative language.   (Thank you, Mrs. Stevenson!)  My ears perked up...... I so enjoyed teaching figurative language. Even more, I enjoyed reading their use of figurative language and painting those pictures in my mind. It was music to my ears!

We continued our discussion as he graciously reminded me of the "official" definition of
rhetoric.  (Rhetoric is the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques. )

His class listened to a Beatles song today, and after that he said  it all  just "clicked".  (Really ND??!! I thought I had been "teaching" you this all along.... LOL!)   He explained that his favorite songs were the ones with the similes and metaphors, alliteration, and personification.  (Oh really?!??)

And I was reminded of one of my MOST favorite songs EVER.... From the first time I heard the lyrics, I was completely captivated.  Full of similes and metaphors- personification and imagery,  "How He Loves" paints an undeniable, unbelievable, vivid image of the greatest love we can ever know!

Recorded by David Crowder Band, it was written by John Mark McMillan after the death of one of his best friends.  Read more about this song and its writer.  The official video by David Crowder Band is linked below the lyrics.     The Story Behind the Lyrics: 'How He Loves'

 “How He Loves”
written by: John Mark McMillan

(Verse 1)
He is jealous for me
Loves like a hurricane,  I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy
When all of a sudden
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory
And I realize just how beautiful You are
And how great Your affections are for me

(Pre-Chorus)
And oh, how He loves us so
Oh, how He loves us
How He loves us all

(Chorus)
Yeah, He loves us
Oh, how He loves us
Oh, how He loves us
Oh, how He loves

(Verse 2)
We are His portion and He is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes
If His grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking
So heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet [unforeseen] kiss
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets
When I think about the way…[to chorus]
